Kale was jubliant.
Ecstatic.
Excessively giddy, even.

He was so giddy that he didn't take notice of the stares that were directed his way, as he pranced about on the streets of Grassveil Town, whooping and clapping his paws together. "The guild," he kept saying, his voice interrupted by his bouts of laughter, "I got into the guild!"

Indeed, the Sandshrew was so drunk on happiness that he paid no attention to his partner Ditrysia, who was hovering a few feet behind him. The Butterfree's head was lowered and her antennae drooping, as though she was trying to shrink in on herself. "Kale," she whispered, her eyes roaming about the lines of merchant stalls, "could you calm down? You're making a scene."

"I got in, I got in!"

Ditrysia sighed, forlorn. This was going to be harder than she thought.

"That would be great, Thankyou!" she grinned, "And to be perfectly honest, I wouldnt really want to spend any more time then necessary around Kale... he seems like he could blow up at any second... No offence intended."

(( Definitely my favorite phrase ever when rping Pokemon. xD ))

"You're very welcome." Ditri's eyes shone. "It's the least I could do. And don't worry, I know exactly what you mean." She stole a glance down the road where Kale had stomped off, as if fearing that he would overhear and come back to kill them. "He's not the most pleasant Pokemon to be around. But... maybe he'll mature soon?"

Fat chance.

"By the way," the Butterfree said, shaking the thought away, "where do you live? I need to know how to contact you if I find something."

"I hope so.." she replied, then Ditrysia asked her where she lived.
"I have a house in one of the trees near the pond on the other side of town." she chuckled, "Its not much, but I could show you if you like."

"In a tree?" Ditri asked, already interested. "That sounds very interesting. I'd love to go." But despite having said that, she hesitated. "Is it a long way from here? I wouldn't want to keep Kale waiting if he happens to be expecting me in the guild later. I can't be too late back, even if he weren't part of the reason." She fidgeted a little uneasily. I don't know if the gates will open for me in the middle of the night, she thought, even though I'm an apprentice now.

"It not far away, but it can wait until tomorrow if you need to get back." she replied, standing on her right leg, then switching into her left leg, whilst re positioning her wings.

"Well, I don't have to be back for awhile, so if it's not far away..." Ditri gave an experimental flap of her wings, then launched a few feet into the air. There she hovered, looking down at Nightshade. "I'd be happy to go right now. It's a much better idea than idly wasting time in the guild, waiting for Kale to come back."

Nightshade nodded then spread her wings and leaped into the air. "Okay. Follow me." she smiled.
Nightshade flew fairly gracefully. Not what most other pokemon would expect from a Murkrow. She led Distrysia over Grassveil and towards the Pond on the other side of town.
Near the pond, there was a row of trees and in one of those trees, was Nightshade's home.

She extended her claws and grabbed ahold of the branch as she landed in the tree and waited for the Butterfree to join her.

Ditri nodded, following the Murkrow when she winged off to take the lead. Even though the Butterfree considered herself an apt flier, she found that she was hard-pressed to keep up with Nightshade, who flew with an agility and grace that astonished her. Grassveil town fell away underneath them as they ascended, then flew past in a blur as the two Pokemon neared the outskirts of the town.

Ditri landed beside Nightshade, her eyes roving the area. "Wow," she breathed, "this is beautiful. You're really lucky to live here, Nightshade."

Nightshade smiled, "Its a is nice place, and you dont tend to get any trouble or noise around here either."
The Murkrow, pulled back a veil of hanging vines, to reveal a small treehouse type building that seemed to be balanced between the branches of the tree. It was fairly plain inside, with a small entrance area, leading to a slightly bigger room. In the room there was a small table, and stools fashioned to look like tree stumps. A small ramp like thing, led to another much smaller chamber with a nest in.

"That sounds lovely," Ditrysia said dreamily, wondering how a noiseless pocket in the town would be like to live in. Certainly it would be peaceful, and relaxing after a long day's work. Perhaps if and when they graduated the guild, she and Kale could settle somewhere similar to this place. That would be nice.

The Butterfree followed Nightshade into the house, curious as to what the interior looked like. When her eyes adjusted to the slight change in lighting, what she saw warmed her heart. "It's very cozy-looking," she said softly, moving around to explore the house. Noticing the stools pushed up against the table, she asked, "Does anybody else live here with you?"

"No." she admitted, "Though it would be pretty cool to have a roomie!" she grinned. "Maybe one day i'll find someone to share it with, but for now, im pretty content.

"Content?" Ditri imagined that living alone in such a quiet part of town could get very... lonely. She couldn't imagine herself being content with living in such solitude all the time, but then again, that was just her. Instead of voicing her thoughts, the Butterfree merely said, "Well, if you're happy here. It is a very nice place to live, away from all those rude brutes that always seem to plague towns." Gingerly, she took a seat on one of the stools and looked up at Nightshade. "Have you always lived here?"

Nightshade shrugged, "Its nice here aswell because some of the younger pokemon come and play near the pond every so often. Sometimes I go down and join in."
She hopped onto the other stool as Ditrysia asked her question. "For a short while I lived in Shadowhue forest, but I cant remember before that."

"Oh, that must be fun. I love children." Ditri went over to the door and peered outside, to where the pond was. It was glassy and still at the moment, but she imagined small Pokemon splashing each other by the water's edge. "My parents never took me here when I was little, so I never knew about this place until now. Pity, I suppose." She went back into the room where Nightshade was in, and blinked. "Shadowhue? Isn't that place... I dunno, dangerous? I'm surprised you made it out of there alive." The Butterfree's eyes had gone as wide as dinnerplates, and she started to respect Nightshade a whole lot more than she had before. If the Murkrow had lived in Shadowhue... She must be strong.

Nightshade blinked as Ditrysia told how her parents had never taken her anywhere, thinking about how great her childhood seemed compared to hers. She was snapped back into reality as Ditri re-appeared in the room.
"I suppose it is sorta dangerous if you don't take the time to learn about the forest first..." she replied, wondering if her little hollow in Shadowhue was still unoccupied.

"Take the time?" Ditri's expression betrayed confusion. "Didn't the Pokemon in the forest give you trouble? How did you find time to learn about it?" Of course, she told herself, there was always stealth, but she couldn't help but wonder exactly how stealthy you needed to be in order to dodge from the eyes of those who seek to harm anything that moves. The thought made her blood run cold.

"Well actually, I just sorta learned as I went along. It was hard at first, but after a while I found a small hollow to live in and just got used to it. Life here, by the pond is much easier." Unless you have no money, she thought.

"I'd probably have been eaten by some passing Ursaring on my first day," Ditri said, laughing nervously. "You must have been incredibly strong to have gone into those woods with little knowledge about it at all. And survived. I envy you your strength."

Nightshade smiled, "Thanks.. I guess. But i'm sure one day you and Kale will be able to go there and do exactly the same thing, and probably ten times better at that."

"That," Ditri said dryly, rolling her eyes, "could take years upon years to accomplish, I fear. It's not that I don't want to work with him, it's just that... well, I think that even somebody who has never seen Kale before can see how headstrong and impulsive he is." She sighed, shaking her head in equal parts disapproval and dismay. "Anybody would be hard-pressed to make a harmonious partnership with a Pokemon of that attitude."

"But you, are a co-operative but gentle pokemon. A perfect combination for someone who is stubborn and as you said, headsrtong and impulsive, like Kale. Though it may not seem like it at first, im sure you two will grow to become the best of partners."

"Cooperative and gentle," Ditri sighed, "but also somewhat of a coward." Her voice dripped with a self-deprecating note, and she sniffed at her own lack of bravery. "I know what Kale does is wrong and that I shouldn't take what he's 'giving' me, but..." She sighed. Alarmingly, she sounded defeated. "I just... can't speak up against him. I chicken out at the last minute, and I let him do whatever he wants with me." She looked up at Nightshade, her expression wry. "A hibernating Silcoon is more assertive than me."

Nightshade smiled, "Compared to Kale though, you would probably be more strategic when exploring. Not heading straight in and just dealing with the consequences, but planning ahead. I think Kale just needs a bit of a wakeup call. Maybe he'll realise just how much he needs you."

"Yes, but after he's dead and his ghost is floating around, probably haunting my every waking moment." Ditri grimaced. "I don't know why, but it looks like the last thing Kale really wants is to work together with anybody as a team. If he didn't want a team in the first place, then why did he look for a partner before joining the guild?" She was silent for a moment, then she shook her head. "I guess we'll see just what happens when we go on our first exploration, huh? To be honest, Nightshade, I'm... not looking forward to it. At all."

"I think, that you should at least try to trust in your partner, even if you're not looking forward to it. Maybe you should try to prove how great you are at exploring, and then maybe he will respect you a bit more." Nightshade sighed, "You should count yourself lucky. I've tried so many times to join the guild and form my own team, but ive never managed to pluck up the courage to do so."
The Murkrow ruffled her feathers uncomfortably, "Maybe one day I will. But until then i'll continue to live here."
