Training Fawnpaw

A she-cat beaming pride padded across the clearing to retrieve her newly appointed apprentice. As she reached the den she called for Fawnpaw and waited outside. The day was beautiful and ideal for a good training session rich with prey.

The pale brown and white tabby was woken by her mentor and leader's calls. She got to her paws and stretched her legs before happily bounding out of the Apprentice Den.
"Good morning Leafstar!" she grinned, the SorrelClan leader being one of those cats who she didn't mind showing her true self around.

She smiled with a slow nod and meowed in a soft voice,
"Good morning Fawnpaw. Would you like to go out into the territory to do some training. It seems like the perfect day if you are up for it." She noticed how energentic her apprentice was and couldn't help but add in a slight chuckle at this.

Fawnpaw nodded enthusiastically. "I'd love to!"
In all honesty it was a silly question. What apprentice in their right mind would say no to a training session? Fawnpaw was ecstatic about having the Clan leader as her mentor. Now she just had to prove that Leafstar had made the right choice.

"Alright then, let's get a move on!" She took one last glance then started to pad away through the entrance of the camp. She knew her apprentice would be following and didn't bother to look back again. As they reached the forest, she droppped down into a crouch. WIth her tail low, she leaped into the air and landed squarely onto a mouse's back. She gave the killing blow and turned around.
"First lesson, hunting."

Fawnpaw happily padded after her mentor, following her out of the camp and into the vast forest that made up SorrelClan's territory. She watched as Leafstar skilfully dropped into the hunters crouch and swiftly caught a mouse, announcing that her first lesson with her would be hunting.
Fawnpaw smiled. Hunting was the best thing that could be chosen for a first lesson since it made it easier to help your clan. Once you knew how to hunt you finally felt like you were earning your place amongst the other cats.

The petite she-cat buried the mouse she had killed and made sure to remember the spot. She would come back for it once they were done.
"Now Fawnpaw, when you are out hunting, you need to make the least amount of noise as possible. Make sure you crouch low and most importantly, keep your tail low. Otherwise it would signal to your prey of your presence. How about you try it and I'll observe the skills you need to improve."

Fawnpaw nodded and crouched as instructed. She concentrated on getting even the smallest detail right. The apprentice made sure she was as low as she could be without her belly fur touching the ground and kept her tail just as low. She tried to take a step forward but with concentrating on everything else the crouch suddenly fell apart.

Leafstar sighed,"Don't stress yourself. No one gets it right on the first try. Take a deep breath and try again." She had noticed the unique look of a concentrated cat on Fawnpaw's face.

"Alright..." she replied quietly. She stood and shook her fur, relaxing herself for the second try. This time she did the crouch easily and made to move forward a few steps again. She started off with just tiny pawsteps to get herself comfortable with moving whilst crouching.

The scent of prey wafted past Leafstar's nose and she quickly scanned the area, catching the small rustle of a bush. In a low voice she spoke,
"How about you try to pounce on that vole over there?"

"O-okay..." she replied quietly. Fawnpaw's senses quickly located the vole and the pale tabby apprentice began to make bigger steps as she stalked her prey. She drew closer and closer to the vole before stopping all of a sudden, having realized that her tail was positioned too high. She fixed it and carried on moving.
Fawnpaw got as close as she felt she could to the vole and leaped at it. Unfortunately, Fawnpaw had slightly misjudged the jump and though she managed to catch the vole, she caught it by it's tail and it quickly started squealing, alerting half to forest to the two cats' presence.
Frowning, Fawnpaw tried to recover by silencing her prey.

Leafstar chuckled with the same smile she had before. She wasn't mad at all, she used be be just the same in her days as an apprentice. This part of the territory seems a little quiet now, she thought to herself.
"Let's move on to a different patch, make sure to bury that vole in a spot you'll remember." The mentor and leader led the way through the dense vegetation until they reached the pond which was close to Ivyclan's border.
"Make sure you pay close attention here," she took a good wiff,"I think our neighbors have been patroling." She turned around to see if fawnpaw was there.

Fawnpaw nodded, the dead vole in her jaws preventing her from answering with her voice. The apprentice then glanced around for a vaguely memorable area to bury her catch in. She decided on a small hollow beneath the roots of a nearby tree. After she finished burying the vole, she padded after her mentor as Leafstar lead her towards the pond.
"IvyClan?" asked Fawnpaw, tilting her head slightly to the side.

"Yes, but they shouldn't be a problem as long as they stay on their territory." Leafstar flicked her ear towards the pond."How about we test out your skills at fishing." The brown and white she-cat padded to the edge of the pond. She seemed to be looking at her reflection, but at the glitter of a fish's scale, her paw quickly shot into the water. She brought it into the air and caught it in her mouth. She began eating this catch as she didn't like the taste of buried fish. After a bite she looked at Fawnpaw and flicked her tail towards the water.

"O-okay..." replied Fawnpaw, who was slightly unsure about the idea of fishing. She watched her mentor intently as she made her catch. At the flick of her tail, the pale tabby headed over to the water edge to try her own luck.

Fawnpaw positioned herself on the pondside, her green coloured eyes scanning the water for a potential target.

Leafstar, after finishing the fish, padded over to her apprentice's side and watched the water. She wanted to see exactly how she would try to pull off the task.

Fawnpaw made sure her shadow didn't fall on the water as logic stated that it would only serve to alert the fish to her presence. She then watched as a few tiny fish swam past. These fish though, were way to small to hold onto let alone feed anyone so she kept waiting.
A few moments later a slightly bigger fish swam past and Fawnpaw made her move. Her paws shot into the water, flipping it up and out of the water. Instead of spiraling towards the shore though, it headed towards the centre of the pond and Fawnpaw found herself leaping after it, determined to save her catch.

"Fawnpaw!" Leafstar suddenly shrieked as her apprentice boldly leaped into the middle of the pond. She wasn't worried, just shocked. After all, she hated getting her fur wet just like any other cat does.
