| l like a good book, but a good book is hard to find, therefor this club is dedicated to finding and reading good books. this master post will have all recomendations in order series, singels, and manga. make any recommendation to join. i will ad a wikipedia link for each book or series. -master book of awsomeness list- -series-Inheritance Cycle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Inheritance_Cycle- Spoiler:
While hunting, Eragon, a 15-year-old farm boy, finds a polished stone in a dangerous mountain range known only as "The Spine." He takes the "stone" to his native village Carvahall, but fails to trade it for food to the village butcher, Sloan. Eragon then elects to bring the stone back to his uncle Garrow's farm and leave it aside as a curiosity. Soon afterward, Eragon realizes that the "stone" is actually a dragon egg, as it hatches. Two mysterious strangers soon appear in Carvahall, inquiring about the egg. His already-hatched dragon, Saphira, is afraid because the strangers mean harm, and flees Eragon's hometown with him for a night, only to return to find his uncle Garrow killed and his farm destroyed.
The Pendragon Adventure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pendragon_Adventure- Spoiler:
Robert "Bobby" Pendragon, an everyday athletic high school student from Stony Brook, Connecticut discovers that he is a Traveler: someone who is able to use mystical flumes to journey among ten distinct spacetime realities, called "territories." His Uncle Press, the lead Traveler, tells him that they have a crucial mission: to stop the efforts of the shapeshifting demon Saint Dane
Artemis Fowl(this is a weird one, like death note meats magic cyberpunk): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artimis_Fowl- Spoiler:
Artemis Fowl is the first book in the series. In it, Artemis Fowl, the main character and anti-hero, and his body guard, Butler, kidnap LEPrecon Holly Short, a fairy elf, to ransom her to "the People" (the various fairies who have moved their entire civilization underground to hide from humans) for 1 ton of 24 carat gold. Guardians of Ga'Hoole(another weird one, but worth a read, it's well written) recommended by thedesertspiret: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardians_of_Ga%27Hoole- Spoiler:
In the first volume Soren, who lives in a nest with his parents and siblings Kludd and Eglantine in a forest kingdom called Tyto, is pushed out of the nest by Kludd as part of a disturbing initiation ceremony performed by the Pure Ones. Soren is then found and snatched by a patrol of the evil owls from the St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls, whose intent is to gain power with tiny particles known as flecks and control over all owl kingdoms in the world.
Ranger's Apprentice(one of my freinds recomended this to me, it does well to stay within the realm of reality wile still delivering a magical tale)recommended by Water Blade: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger%27s_Apprentice- Spoiler:
Alongside others, Will is an orphan in Castle Redmont. At age 15, the orphans are expected to either become an apprentice or go off to work in the fields. After much stressing and suspicion of his own behalf, Will is chosen to become a Ranger. Rangers are the intelligence force and unofficial 'police' of Araluen. They have mastered the art of unseen and unheard movement, camouflage, knife throwing, knife fighting skills and long-range weaponry, The Hunger Games(this series looks like a good one, i'll have to read it to make sure) recommended by Cherry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunger_Games- Spoiler:
The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly Appalachia.[7] As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol, every year, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected at random and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised event in which the participants, or "tributes," must fight to the death in a dangerous, outdoor arena, controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains. The story follows fatherless 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12, who volunteers for the 74th Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose. Also participating from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, a boy whom Katniss knows from school and who once gave her bread when her family was starving.
Age of Fire(i loved reading this story, each books plot interteines so well. but the ending of the series was disappointing.) recommended by Sharubii :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Fire - Spoiler:
The series follows the adventures of three dragon siblings. The three siblings are separated early in life by an attack on their home cave. In the fantasy setting of the novels, dragon population has been dwindling as relations among the many races worsen. Humans especially are becoming the dominant species, but there are still powerful factions of dwarves, elves and other sentient species.
Redwall(seems a little weird, but it's a fan favorite so it must be good.) recommended by Sharubii: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redwall- Spoiler:
The book series does not chronicle any one particular timeframe. Rather, it is set in many different periods in the history of the world of Redwall, which entails Mossflower woods, surrounding islands, and a land called Southsward. Some of the books focus on characters who, in other volumes, are historical figures (e.g., Martin the Warrior's father, Luke, in The Legend of Luke). Typically, those books are set before the founding of Redwall Abbey. There is a timeline in the Redwall series, but it generally places the books in a completely different order than the order in which they were written. However, there were two phases when the novels were published in chronological order. -single books-The Compound(think fallout meets escape from Alcatraz, couldn't find a wikipedia link): http://www.amazon.com/Compound-S-Bodeen/dp/0312578601/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1- Spoiler:
Eli and his family have lived in the underground Compound for six years. The world they knew is gone, and they’ve become accustomed to their new life. Accustomed, but not happy. No amount of luxury can stifle the dull routine of living in the same place, with only his two sisters, only his father and mother, doing the same thing day after day after day. As problems with their carefully planned existence threaten to destroy their sanctuary—and their sanity—Eli can’t help but wonder if he’d rather take his chances outside. Eli’s father built the Compound to keep them safe. But are they safe—really?
Dragon Rider(my childhood favorite): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Rider_(novel)- Spoiler:
As the novel begins, a dragon clan receives word from a rat named Rosa that humans are going to flood their valley hide-away. In frightened disbelief, most of the dragons refuse to accept this news and decide to either hide or fight. Slatebeard, the oldest and wisest dragon in the valley, tells the dragons of a great valley he once inhabited as a child, the Rim of Heaven. He believes this to be one of the last places on Earth for the dragons to hide from humans, and urges them to seek it. Firedrake alone heeds Slatebeard's message and sets off with Sorrel, his brownie companion, to find it, but not before Slatebeard warns him to "beware the Golden One". Rosa suggests before their departure that they should see her cousin, Gilbert Graytail, to pick up a map. They do so, but since Gilbert resides in a large city, Firedrake is forced to hide in an abandoned building. There they meet Ben, an orphaned human boy. Ben is astonished but not terrified by the dragon and quickly learns of his plan. He offers to aid Sorrel in her trek to the mapmaker's home. Though reluctant to be helped by one of her perceived enemies, Sorrel agrees and accepts the company of the boy. -manga-Fullmetal Alchemist(this is a must read manga): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist- Spoiler:
Edward and Alphonse Elric are two alchemist brothers searching for the legendary catalyst called the Philosopher's Stone, a powerful object which would allow them to recover their bodies (which were lost in an attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy). Born in the village of Resembool from the country of Amestris (アメストリス Amesutorisu?), the two brothers lived there with their mother. Their father, Van Hohenheim, left home for unknown reasons and years later, their mother Trisha Elric died of a terminal illness, leaving the Elric brothers alone. After their mother's death, Edward became determined to bring her back through the use of alchemy, an advanced science in which objects can be created from raw materials. They researched Human Transmutation, a forbidden art in which one attempts to create or modify a human being. However, this attempt failed, ultimately resulting in the loss of Edward's left leg and Alphonse's entire body. In a desperate effort to save his brother, Edward sacrificed his right arm to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. Some days later, an alchemist named Roy Mustang visited the Elric brothers, and told Edward to become a member of the State Military of the country to find a way to recover their bodies. After that, Edward's left leg and right arm were replaced with automail, a type of advanced prosthetic limb, created for him by his close family friends Winry Rockbell and her grandmother Pinako.
work in progress

| The Firekeeper Saga (first one Through Wolf's Eyes) by Jane Lindskold is my favorite series ever. Marvelous books, marvelous plots, marvelous language.
I also love The Age of Fire series (first one Dragon Champion) by E.E. Knight.
Also, if anybody's ever heard of the Redwall series (first one Redwall) by Brian Jacques, that's what got me into reading in the first place. ;3 I've read all but the latest book now. ...rest in peace, Mr. Jacques.
A Song of Ice and Fire (first one A Game of Thrones) by George R.R. Martin is pretty damn good, too. | |
