The Power of Wind Magic

Derek was sitting in the library reading one of his many books. Things had been quiet around the manor since all of the others were adjusting to their new heightened senses. Derek's own senses were heightened as well and thats why he read so many of Chrono's books, he loved the feel of the ancient and pre-ancient leather.

Josephine wandered the halls of the mansion, peering into each room as she looked for Derek. She was heading towards the library as that seemed where most people spent their time when they were here, but was checking each other room just in case.

"Well someone's coming," Derek said to himself. He could hear someone roaming the halls. It was probably Jo or Riley, they've had the most time to adjust to their new senses.

Josephine peered into the library and saw Derek almost immediately.
"Hey Derek." she smiled, still half surprised at how much louder her voice seemed now that her hearing was so much more sensitive.

Derek looked up from his book, "Hey Jo," he said, "How are you adjusting?" he asked.

"Fine... I think. It just still surprises me how loud things are now..."
She wondered what it would be like if she heard the screeching of chalk on a blackboard right now and chuckled to herself.
"How long did it take for you to get used to these 'enhanced senses'?" she asked.

"It's not as long as you think," he said, "In about a week things well start to feel a bit more normal, whatever that means." he joked. "So have you made any decisions on what type of magic you want to learn?" he asked.

"Uhm... yea.. actually." She paused for a moment as if reassessing her decision. Finally deciding to just stick with it she continued.
"I'd like to learn wind magic."

"Well then like I said after you all were Awakened," Derek said as he closed his book, "I would be teaching you Wind Magic. Now do you want to start learning now? Or do you want to wait a day or so before starting?" he asked.

"I don't mind...."
Josephine wasn't usually indecisive, but she wondered whether it would be better to wait a few days to properly settle with her new enhanced senses or whether it would be fine just to start now.

"Well alright then," Derek said, he then stood up, "Lets go out to the back garden, thats usually the best place for me to teach you wind magic." he said.

Josephine grinned, "Alright!"
She was already excited to learn about Wind Magic and how to use it. She wondered how hard it would be to learn...
Jo followed Derek to the mansion's back garden.

Derek led the way through a small hallway, when they came out they were in a large open room with a glass ceiling. "Welcome to the garden," he said, "Simple garden, but it's the best place to practice the ancient magics. And this is the best place for me to teach you." he said, as he walked over a special arrangement of tiles in the floor. They formed a large ring with five rings inside of it. Then there was a small amount of space in between all of the smaller rings.

"It's incredible!" grinned Josephine. Though she had explored almost all of the mansion, the back garden was one of the places she still had not. It was rather large but it's simplicity was what made it unique.

"Yup, it sure is," he said. "Now take a seat in the center of this large circle and we can begin." he said. He took off a ring that he had on his left middle finger he fiddled with it in his hand.

Nodding, Josephine wandered into the centre of the circle and gently sat cross-legged on the ground. She looked up at Derek, wondering what she needed to do next.

Derek walked over to Jo and kneeled down in front of her. He then held up the ring in front of her, "This ring is very ancient. It has been worn for centuries, rumored to have been around since before humans walked the earth." he said, "It is believed that this ring was worn by one of the original wind mages. My teacher passed it down to me as my trigger, and now I am passing it on to you." he then placed the ring in Jo's hand, "Place that on your left middle finger and we will begin." he then stood up and walked himself outside of the circle.

Josephine blinked as Derek held the ring up and explained it's history. She looked at in with a sense of almost awe as he put it in her hand. She held it up, looking at it's design before she did as instructed and put it on the middle finger of her left hand.

"Now, lets begin," Derek said, "Close your eyes and take slow deep breathes." he said as he fully stepped out of the circle.

"It is traditional to use special words when teaching the ancient magics," he said, "I no longer believe these words, but I will use them just the same."

“People say that the Magic of Fire, Water, or even Earth is the strongest of all magic, but they are wrong. The Magic of Air surpasses all others. Air can extinguish fierce flames, it creates waves, it can sever the earth at it seems. But Air can also fuel fire, move boats, shift the earth," he said, "Air is a truly destructive force. It can create tornados, destroy buildings, and even kill. If the magic of Air is used improperly, it will surely kill the user, and very likely those around them. But Air is also peaceful, it creates life by pollinating flowers, it is gentle enough to allow birds to fly in its domain. Those who can manipulate Air magic control the movements of the wind. They cause it to flow how they wish. Air magic grants them immense power, from creating tornados for pure destruction, to forming walls of wind to protect. It can even grant them wings. True control over Air takes year's of practice this knowledge that I have given you is the first step towards that control." he said. During his speech, Derek walked around the large circle that Jo sat in. After he had finished he stopped in front of Jo and waited for her to open her eyes.

OoC: During his whole speech, images of what Derek is describing would flash through Jo's head, so that can be your post along with her opening her eyes.

Josephine closed her eyes and slowly but surely calmed her breathing, following Derek's instructions to the letter.

When Derek started his speech, Josephine began to see images in her mind. They seemed to be depicting what Derek was describing.
A burst of fire. A splash of water. A piece of rock erupting out of the cracked ground. A pause. Blackness.
Then out of the blackness, Jo can see the small white wisps that depict the wind, swirling around beneath her closed eyelids. A bright crackling fire springs up, but the pale winds just blow it flat again. The image of a calm ocean appears, but the winds create waves that come crashing down around her.
Josephine watches behind her closed eyes as the presence of air causes a fire to burn brighter, moves boats from that once calm sea and shifts the rocks and boulders that represent 'the earth.'
The pale white winds then form together to create a vicious tornado. It destroys buildings, injures people and then heads back towards Josephine in a way that almost forces her eyes back open, but she resists.
The tornado has dissipated. Instead the scene now is a tranquil meadow. A gentle wind moves pollen from one plant to another, pollinating them as Derek described. A bird, bluebird to be exact, flutters past before darting upwards into the sky.

Josephine then watches as the images in her mind quickly switch from the wind changing, to the tornado, to a wall of wind protecting her from harm. As those images disappear, she watches as silhouetted wings unfurl behind her closed eyelids. And then blackness.

After the last of Derek's words, Josephine gently blinked open her eyes to see him stood in front of her.
