McKenzie's Team: Case 1

Riza McKenzie looked around at the crime scene of the case she and her team had been assigned to. She yanked a pair of sterile white gloves out of her pocket and slid them on gingerly so not to contaminate them. "Jay, you're on picture duty." she barked, tossing him a camera. "I want pictures of EVERYTHING."

The crime scene is the victim's living room. The walls are a soft, pale toffee colour, the fireplace and mantle a tranquil white. The plush carpet is cream, but crimson flecks litter the area near the victim's body. The forensic team is already there, going over the room for other pieces of evidence whilst McKenzie's Team is left to examine the body.
Lying face up on the white and toffee striped rug in the center of the room is the victim. The rug itself is covered in red stains. The body is a matter of inches away from a dark pine wood coffee table. The table has six small drawers, all closed with no signs of being disturbed.
The victim is a middle aged man, tall with short jet black hair. He is wearing a smart grey suit with a white shirt underneath. There are two bullet holes in the shirt. A trickle of blood can be seen on the right side of his head. The man wears no jewelry though there is a scrap of paper slightly hanging out of one of his pockets.

Carelessly flung onto the cream coloured couch is a newspaper, left open on an article about an embezzlement scandal. A bullet is embedded in the wall next to a modern picture hung above the fireplace.

Jay Collins sighed as the camera was tossed towards him. He caught it expertly.
"Really boss? I'm not the one who needs the photos...."

The detective was referring to his infamous eidetic memory. He could perfectly recall even the smallest details of a crime scene from his desk back at the CBI building. McKenzie knew that. Heck everyone in the CBI knew that.

Lily shrugged, "Too bad, so sad, Jay." She flashed him a grin and then pulled on her own pair of gloves. "So much evidence, so little time." She sighed over-dramatically and walked over to the place where the bullet was embedded in the wall. "Someone was angry." Eyebrows raised, she wondered whether it was worth it to dig the bullet out of the wall. "Well... nothing's jumping out and screaming 'Hey I'm important look at me! I'll solve the case!'" Lily muttered, opening the tidy looking drawers. "Nothing seems out of place..."

Riza seemed to be ignoring Collins pleas, as usual. Instead, she squated down to look at the body. She looked up as if calculating something when the newspaper caught her eye. "Hey, somebody verify the date on that newspaper." she instucted as she looked back down at the body. She noticed a small peice of paper hanging out of the victim's pocket. "Hello there...." she muttered. She motioned for Jay to come over and get a picture before she attempted to remove it.

Jay glanced over at Lilly with a sarcastic looking smile before he moved on, glancing around the room and memorising it's entire contents. Riza then motioned him over.

He bent down and snapped a picture of the paper before snapping quick shots of the victim's injuries. He then darted around, photographing seemingly silly things like the corner of the coffee table and the flecks of blood on the carpet. He took pictures of the victim's position, the bullet in the wall. He then stopped and span around on his heel taking a look at the room from another angle.

Lily crouched down by Riza. "Hey Boss, what have we here?" She asked, eyeing the paper that stuck out from a pocket ever so slightly. She itched to take it but left that to the boss. Standing up and spinning around slowly in a circle, she looked at every inch of the room. Judging by the bullet in the wall, Lily was rather sure the victim and the perpetrator had had a rather angry conversation. What did that mean? A confrontation? As she completed her full circle and returned to look at her boss, she waited expectantly for the answer to her question.

"We'll know soon enough, Lilly." Riza responded. She very carefully pinched the edge of the paper with two fingers and extracted it, making sure nothing but her gloved fingers touched it. "Now, I wonder what this little paper is hiding...." Riza murmured.
